Minister Credits Government\u2019s Decisive Leadership for Urban Water Revolution<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odisha has firmly positioned itself among the top-performing States in the country under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, with the State Government driving a transformative agenda in urban water security and infrastructure development through decisive leadership and focused governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a clear political commitment to deliver results on the ground, the present Government has ensured accelerated implementation of AMRUT 2.0 across 89 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). A robust portfolio of 345 projects, with an investment of \u20b94,030.18 crore, has been rolled out with a sharp focus on universal water supply and rejuvenation of urban water bodies. Notably, 107 projects have already been completed, reflecting the Government\u2019s emphasis on time-bound execution and accountability, while the remaining projects are progressing at a rapid pace with close monitoring at the highest levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Placing water security at the centre of its urban development agenda, the Government has delivered tangible outcomes. Seven new Water Treatment Plants with a combined capacity of 43 MLD have been commissioned, benefiting nearly 2.83 lakh citizens. The rollout of 24×7 water supply systems in key urban centres and the provision of over 2.7 lakh household tap connections have ensured improved access to safe drinking water for more than 5 lakh urban residents\u2014marking a significant step towards universal coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting the Government\u2019s inclusive approach, large-scale community participation has been mobilised through initiatives such as \u201cAMRUT Mitra\u201d and \u201cWomen for Tree,\u201d empowering women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to take leadership in waterbody rejuvenation and environmental sustainability. Strategic convergence with national programmes like \u201cPey Jal Survekshan\u201d and \u201cJal Hi AMRUT\u201d has further reinforced efficient water management and reuse practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reinforcing its reform-oriented governance model, the State is also leveraging innovative financing mechanisms to scale up urban transformation. Under the \u201cCredit Enhancement Initiative,\u201d 16 bankable projects worth \u20b970.27 crore have been prepared for smaller ULBs. In addition, five high-impact infrastructure projects worth \u20b93,030.61 crore have been submitted under the \u201cUrban Challenge Fund\u201d for key cities including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, and Berhampur, positioning them as engines of growth and investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hon\u2019ble Minister for Housing & Urban Development, Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, asserted that Odisha\u2019s top-tier national ranking is a direct outcome of the present Government\u2019s strong political will, decisive policy direction, and relentless focus on delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis achievement reflects our Government\u2019s unwavering commitment to transform urban Odisha with speed, scale, and sustainability. We are not just implementing schemes\u2014we are delivering a comprehensive urban water revolution that ensures every household has access to safe and reliable drinking water,\u201d the Minister said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further emphasized, \u201cOur focus is clear\u2014time-bound execution, accountable governance, and future-ready infrastructure. We are building resilient cities that will drive Odisha\u2019s growth and improve the quality of life for every citizen. Under the vision of a \u2018Viksit Odisha\u2019, our Government will continue to lead from the front and set new benchmarks in urban transformation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
