Bhubaneswar, March 30, 2026: [ADN]Hon’ble Shri Justice Satrughana Pujahari today, assumed charge as the Chairperson of the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC). This marks his second term as Chairperson, reflecting continued confidence in his leadership and commitment to the cause of human rights.
Justice Pujahari is a distinguished judicial officer with rich experience in both the higher judiciary and public administration. He has served as a Judge of the Orissa High Court and has held several important positions in the judicial system as well as in the Government of Odisha. His previous tenure as Chairperson of OHRC, which began on 10th February 2023, was marked by proactive engagement in addressing human rights concerns and strengthening institutional responsiveness.
During his earlier term, the Commission undertook various initiatives aimed at improving access to justice, enhancing awareness on human rights issues, and ensuring timely intervention in cases concerning vulnerable and marginalized sections of society. His reappointment is expected to provide continuity and further momentum to these efforts.
On assuming charge, Justice Pujahari outlined his vision for the Commission, stating, “The Odisha Human Rights Commission will continue to function as a responsive and accessible institution, committed to the protection of human dignity and rights. Special emphasis will be placed on ensuring timely redressal of grievances, promoting awareness, and safeguarding the interests of the most vulnerable sections through a fair and transparent approach.”
The Odisha Human Rights Commission plays a crucial role in safeguarding and promoting human rights in the State, and under his leadership, it is expected to further strengthen its mandate through effective intervention, outreach, and coordination with various stakeholders.
