A one-day State-Level Review and Orientation Workshop on the NIPUN Odisha Mission was held at the Government Boys’ High School, Unit–I campus in Bhubaneswar. The workshop was organized by the School and Mass Education Department with the objective of strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy skills among primary school students across the state.
The workshop brought together District Education Officers (DEOs), Additional District Education Officers, Principals of District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), and academic coordinators from all districts. The primary aim was to ensure effective grassroots-level implementation of the mission and to provide clarity on roles and responsibilities for successful execution.
Dr. N. Tirumala Naik, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, S&ME attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Addressing the participants, he emphasized that NIPUN Odisha will play a pivotal role in strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy in line with the objectives of the NEP 2020. He stressed the need for strong coordination between DEOs, ADEOs and DIETs and highlighted the importance of clearly defining institutional roles to ensure that every child in the state achieves learning progress.
Smt. Ananya Das, SPD, OSEPA attended the workshop. She underlined the importance of delivering quality education, effective implementation of the reading promotion campaign “Padhiba, Gadhiba Odisha,” strengthening NIPUN Vidyalayas, optimal use of learning ladders, and reinforcing assessment mechanisms.

District representatives presented innovative and best practices being implemented in their respective regions. Discussions were also held on how assessment tools such as Grade V and Grade VIII assessments, the PARAKH National Survey, State-Level Achievement Surveys, Foundational Learning Surveys, and Annual Foundational Learning Assessments can be effectively utilized to improve classroom teaching and learning outcomes. Special focus was given to the Reading Promotion Campaign, emphasizing the need to cultivate a reading culture in every school.

The role of District Project Management Units (DPMUs), district and block-level review meetings, and District NIPUN Cells in advancing the mission was also discussed in detail. Department officials informed that similar workshops will be organized in the future to further enhance the capacity of district-level officers. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Amita Pattnaik, Additional Director, OSEPA, with participation of other senior officials.
