Bhubaneswar 28.07.2026 [ADN] : On the occasion of the world-famous Shri Gundicha Rath Yatra, from July 15 to July 27, volunteers of the AG Ambulance Division earned widespread appreciation by rescuing seriously ill and injured devotees, providing first aid, and offering ambulance services.
During the Rath Yatra, Bahuda Yatra, and Suna Besha, when overwhelming crowds and stampedes caused devotees to suffer from suffocation, the volunteers rescued them, administered immediate first aid, and saved many lives.
On the day of Suna Besha, a critically unconscious woman who had been rescued from the crowd by the State Fire Services Department was given the appropriate amount of oxygen and CPR by AG Ambulance volunteer Eng. Abhilash Bal. By ensuring she was taken to the hospital in time, he was able to save her life.
The Rath Yatra service camp organized by the AG Ambulance Division under the Office of the Accountant General concluded today in Puri.
At the request of the Puri District Health Officer, volunteers, stretchers, ambulances, and emergency medicines were deployed at Talabania Bus Stand, Samang, the seashore, and the Bada Danda to provide immediate first aid.
During the Rath Yatra and Bahuda Yatra, injured devotees who suffered from suffocation due to the heavy crowds were rescued immediately and safely transported by ambulance to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital.
The AG Ambulance Division has been providing this service during the Rath Yatra for the past 40 years.
Throughout the nine-day Rath Yatra, first aid services were provided to hundreds of sick and injured devotees and pilgrims.
The camp was supervised and supported by AG Ambulance Division Assistant Commissioner Purushottam Bal; Dr. Ashish Kumar Muduli; Dr. Satyajit Sahu; Dr. Abhipsa Bal; Manoj Tripathy; Team Leader Ashok Pattnaik; Eng. Abhilash Bal; Sanjay Yadav; Suresh Chandra Mahanti; Pradeep Kumar Kar; Shibanath Mahapatra; Prakash Chandra Gouda; and officers of the Khordha District St. John Ambulance Division, including Bhikari Charan Sahu, Santosh Panchuati, Nrusingha Mahapatra, along with other volunteers, who jointly managed and supported the camp.
