Bhubaneswar | February 28 [ADN] The Odisha Science Academy, functioning under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Odisha, celebrated National Science Day 2026 with great enthusiasm today at the Iconic Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya (OAV) in Andharua, Bhubaneswar.
Addressing the gathering, noted educationist and environmentalist Dr. Jayakrushna Panigrahi highlighted the core objectives of celebrating National Science Day. Speaking on this year’s theme, “Women in Science: A Harbinger of Developed India,” he provided students with invaluable insights into the pivotal role women play in the nation’s scientific progress.
The event was presided over by Smt. Shibannee Mohanty, Additional Secretary to the Department of Science and Technology and Secretary of the Odisha Science Academy. In her address, she detailed the Academy’s ongoing initiatives and its vital role in popularizing science education across the state.
The program also saw the presence of Shri Padmalochan Das, Under Secretary of the Department, and Ms. Jyotsna Nanda, Assistant Section Officer.Over 500 students and teachers received copies of the Academy’s popular science magazines, ‘Bigyan Diganta’ and ‘Science Horizon’.To foster scientific temper, the Academy organized a series of competitions, including essays, debates, quizzes, and painting.
A total of 13 meritorious students were honored with prizes for their outstanding performance in various categories.
The ceremony concluded with a welcome address and a vote of thanks presented by the authorities of the Iconic Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya, expressing gratitude to the Academy for choosing their campus for such a prestigious state-level event.
