Bhubaneswar 27.05.2026 [ADN] : Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stone of the 13.2 ΜΤΡΑ JSW Utkal Steel plant at Dhinkia in Jagatsinghpur district on Wednesday. Among oth-ers, Industries Minister Sampad Swain and JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal were present at the foundation- laying cer-emony The project, spread over 2,950 acres, will lever-age Odisha’s strategic coastal location, port con-nectivity, and logistics in-frastructure to serve both

domestic and global mar-kets. Laying the founda-tion stone, the Chief Min-ister said the project re-flects Odisha’s renewed industrial vision. Taking a potshot at the former BJD government, he pointed out that earlier attempts by South Korean steel giant POSCO failed due to a lack of commit-ment from previous gov-ernment. JSW sources said that the Paradeep plant will be developed in phases, with long-term plans to ex-pand capacity in line with market demand.
Jayant Acharya, Joint Managing Director and CEO, JSW Steel, said the plant’s strategic coastal location, integrated infrastructure and access to logistics networks will enhance operational efficiencies and strengthen the company’s ability to serve customers across domestic and global markets.
Sajjan Jindal described the project as a defining moment for JSW Steel’s growth and reaffirmed confidence in India’s manufacturing future. The plant is expected to create thousands of job opportunities, strengthen allied industries and re-inforce Odisha’s position as a leading industrial and economic power-house. Once operational, the facility will strengthen Odisha’s posi-tion as a steel hub and contribute significantly to India’s industrial trans-formation.
