Bhubaneswar 31.08.2026 [ADN] A deep shadow of grief has fallen over Odisha Police following the untimely demise of senior IPS officer and IGP (Crime Branch) Shefeen Ahamed K.,Members of the IPS Association are deeply saddened by his passing.
A condolence meeting was held this afternoon at Police Bhawan, Bhubaneswar, presided over by the Director General of Police, Shri Binaytosh Mishra, IPS where the late Shefeen was fondly remembered.
Floral tributes were offered before his photograph and a silent prayer was held for the peace of his soul. The Association also conveyed its deep condolences to the bereaved family.
Addressing the meeting, DGP Shri Mishra said that the late Shefeen Ahamed had earned a reputation as a skilled, hardworking and dedicated IPS officer. Throughout his long career he held several important positions and carried out his duties with great competence, adding to the dignity and reputation of Odisha Police. He said his demise was an irreparable loss to both society and the police department. He also recalled fond memories of the late officer and offered his condolences to the family.
Opening the proceedings, Shri Soumendra Priyadarshi, Secretary of the State IPS Association and Addl. DG of Police (Modernisation) spoke about his career. Born in Kerala in 1976, Shefeen Ahamed K. joined the police service as an IPS officer of the RR 2003 batch. After training in Sundargarh district in 2005, he served as SDPO Gunupur and later as SP in Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Gajapati, the Directorate of Vigilance, Berhampur and Kalahandi.
His contribution to anti Naxal operations was significant. He then went on deputation to his home state of Kerala for five years, where he served as SP (Computer) Thiruvananthapuram, AIG Headquarters, DIG (Admin) and DIG (Armed Police Battalion). His role in laying the foundation for anti Naxal efforts in Kerala was unmatched.
In 2019, he returned to Odisha and served as DIG (Headquarters) Cuttack, DIG (South Western Range) Koraput and DIG (Technical) Cuttack.
He later held important positions such as IGP (Technical) Cuttack, IGP (Fire Services & Home Guards) and IGP (HRPC), Odisha. He had been serving as IGP (Crime Branch) since 10 July 2023.

Sharma, Director (SFSL) Dr. Santosh Bala, Addl. DG of Police (Law and Order) Shri Sanjay Kumar, Transport Commissioner, Odisha & Addl. DG of Police (Prisons) Shri Amitabh Thakur, Commissioner of Police (Bhubaneswar-Cuttack) Dr. S. Dev Datta Singh, Addl. DG of Police (Hdqrs) Shri Prateek Mohanty, and Addl. DG of Police (HRPC) Shri yatindra Koyal were present at today’s meeting and shared their memories.
